...this one is a doozy!
I recently received an e-mail that has been circulating on the Internet regarding the PT’s plan for a “Communist Brazil”. The e-mail summarizes the key points of the 5thCongress of the PT in Salvador, Bahia on 13 June, 2015.
If you are interested in wading through the documentation you should visit the PT’s site (www.pt.org.br/biblioteca), go to the bottom of the home page and select page 3, then scroll down to Cadernos de Teses do 5o Congresso do PT. There you will find the suggested plans for a leftist takeover “conspiracy”.
Warning: Like most of the leftist rhetoric I have seen in Brazil and elsewhere, it is extensive. The file reads like it was written in the Philosophy Department of the University of Babble-On!
You have to almost wonder what they might have been smoking when writing up their plans.
A summary of key action points was provided in the e-mail as follows:
- Nationalize the Globo Network of media outlets and all religious broadcast channels;
- Exempt popular political movements such as the MST and MTST from criminal prosecution;
- Cancel the prison sentences of the mensalão defendants;
- Impeach the Supreme Court Justices who sentenced the mensalão defendants;
- Cancel the privatizations of formerly state-owned companies;
- Cancel the mandate of Jair Bolsonaro (a member of Congress, retired military officer, and self-declared candidate for President in the 2018 election);
- Prohibit any public financing of opposition media;
- Repudiate both domestic and foreign debt;
- Declare Brazil the guarantor of the communist countries of the Americas.
As “conspiracies” go, the PT clearly rivals the political right that it accuses of fomenting a “coup d’état”.
It also suggests that the space-time warp I have referred to in the past – i.e. that the Brazilian left is somehow “stuck” in the mid-1960s – is real and a lot of people are in there!
